Katherine Walker and I collaborated on the development of a new identity for local writer and producer David Himmel. We met with David to get a sense of his needs, drew up a proposal and timeline for the project, and got to work.
I installed and setup WordPress as a content management system and built a custom theme based on Katherine’s design for the website. I also helped David import his existing blog content to his new system. From his WordPress admin panel, David can add and edit new pages; write, tag, and categorize blog posts; add links to download samples of his work; add events; customize page headers and more.
I installed Google Apps on David’s server, which powers his @himmelink.com email addresses and allows him to add up to 50 users through a simple online interface. Google Apps gives David all the familiar comforts of Gmail-powered email including Google Talk, Google Docs, and Google Calendars.
I spent time in person with David teaching him the ins and outs of his new setup so he would feel confident putting all of the flexibility of his new website to good use.
